Renewed Hope and Joy at Tryp Cayo Coco: A Review of Cuba’s Hidden Gem

Welcome to my blog post about Tryp Cayo Coco resort in Cuba. This once-thriving luxury destination has seen its fair share of challenges in recent years due to the last major hurricane in September 2017, coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic and Cuba’s economic and political issues. As a result, the resort has lost some of its charms, and it now stands as a shadow of its former self.

The last major hurricane caused significant damage to the resort’s infrastructure, and it took several months for the resort to recover. Just as the resort was beginning to regain its former glory, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, causing a sharp decline in the country’s tourism industry. With the Cuban government’s decision to close its borders to international travellers, many resorts, including Tryp Cayo Coco, were devoid of tourists.

One of the many challenges that Tryp Cayo Coco faced during the pandemic was the scarcity and lack of food resources. The Cuban government’s strict regulations and limited resources made it difficult for hotels to maintain their standard of service and quality of food. As a result, tourists who had once enjoyed the resort’s wide variety of dishes and fine dining were now left with limited options.

Despite these challenges, the Cuban people’s positive attitude and willingness to help visitors remained unchanged. Their warm hospitality, friendliness, and genuine care for their guests are admirable and made up for the resort’s shortcomings. From the entertainment crew to the bartenders, and the wait staff, such as Alexander “the Great,” the resort staff’s positive attitude and genuine care for guests were evident throughout my stay.

The new management has renewed its commitment to growth and improvement at Tryp Cayo Coco. Reconstruction of many buildings has already begun, and the plan to rebuild the great roof that once covered the entire main building is in the works by the end of 2023. With the new management’s dedication to growth and improvement, I have high hopes for the future of the resort.

Despite the challenges that Cuba’s tourism industry has faced in recent years, there is still hope for the future. The Cuban government has announced plans to invest heavily in the country’s tourism infrastructure to improve the quality of service and increase the number of tourists visiting the island. As the world continues to recover from the pandemic, Cuba is poised to emerge as a top tourist destination once again. The country’s natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and warm hospitality are sure to attract visitors from around the world.

In conclusion, while Tryp Cayo Coco has faced significant challenges in recent years, the Cuban people’s warm hospitality and positive attitude have remained unchanged. The resort’s new management’s efforts to improve the infrastructure and the Cuban government’s commitment to investing in the country’s tourism infrastructure are reasons to be hopeful for the future. Despite the scarcity of food resources during the pandemic, the resort staff’s genuine care for their guests and positive attitude make up for the resort’s shortcomings. Overall, I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing and rejuvenating vacation, and I look forward to seeing the changes that the new management has in store for the future.
