As Above, So Below—Carefully

Explore the Hermetic principle of Correspondence—“As above, so below”—through the lens of modern systems science. From emergence and feedback loops to networks, scale, and false pattern recognition, this essay examines how connections shape our lives while drawing a careful line between meaningful relationships, useful analogy, and unsupported claims.

The Discipline of Attention

How much of the world do we actually see—and how much does the mind quietly construct for us?

Beginning with the Hermetic principle of Mentalism, this essay explores the uneasy territory between reality and perception: selective attention, expectation, metacognition, predictive processing, and the strange ways our own mental models can disguise themselves as fact. Drawing a careful line between ancient Hermetic thought, *The Kybalion*, and modern cognitive science, it asks what remains of the idea that “the Universe is Mental” once wishful thinking and mystical exaggeration are stripped away.

What emerges is something less magical, but perhaps more powerful: we cannot simply think reality into submission, but we can learn to recognise the assumptions, habits, fears, and expectations shaping the reality from which we act. Attention becomes both instrument and discipline—the lamp by which we decide what deserves to be seen.

The Work Begins Where We Stand

Hermeticism does not ask us to escape ordinary life, but to meet it with greater attention, responsibility, and awareness. In this introduction to Hermetic living, we explore how ancient philosophical ideas can coexist with modern science—not as supernatural claims dressed in scientific language, but as practical lenses for understanding mind, habit, interpretation, ritual, causality, and personal transformation. The work begins exactly where we stand.
