The Discipline of Attention

How much of the world do we actually see—and how much does the mind quietly construct for us?

Beginning with the Hermetic principle of Mentalism, this essay explores the uneasy territory between reality and perception: selective attention, expectation, metacognition, predictive processing, and the strange ways our own mental models can disguise themselves as fact. Drawing a careful line between ancient Hermetic thought, *The Kybalion*, and modern cognitive science, it asks what remains of the idea that “the Universe is Mental” once wishful thinking and mystical exaggeration are stripped away.

What emerges is something less magical, but perhaps more powerful: we cannot simply think reality into submission, but we can learn to recognise the assumptions, habits, fears, and expectations shaping the reality from which we act. Attention becomes both instrument and discipline—the lamp by which we decide what deserves to be seen.

The Cosmic Ballet of the Mind

In my latest poem, “The Cosmic Ballet of the Mind,” I delve into the intricate interplay between the mind and the universe. Drawing upon philosophy, spirituality, and metaphysics, the poem explores the uncharted depths of our subconscious and the boundless expanse of the universe. This piece is an ode to creation, dreams, perception, and the power of the mind. Join me as we embark on a journey that weaves worlds in a mystic ballet of thoughts, bringing forth the grand design alive in our subconscious.
